Emerson's here!

I'm sorry I haven't posted sooner but becoming a mother has kept me pretty busy this past week! :)

In my last post I explained that I was put on bedrest due to pregnancy induced high blood pressure.  We had a follow up doctor's appointment last Tuesday to determine if bed rest was helping lower my blood pressure. Unfortunately, it was still way too high so my doctor stuck with the plan to induce me that night.

Nathan and I already had our bags packed so we headed home and took a big nap and relaxed in preparation for the busy hours that were ahead of us.  We dropped Tuck off at Nathan's parent's house and headed to our last dinner/date night for a while.  Then it was time to get things started at the hospital.  It was strange walking through the doors knowing that we would be leaving with our little one!
Last preggo pic!
Once we arrived they gave me the medication that would slowly get the labor process started.  When I arrived at the hospital I was already having contractions (I wasn't even feeling them) that were being picked up on the monitor.  The medicine they gave me started making the contractions stronger, and at about 2:30 I was getting pretty uncomfortable.

Nathan's comfy accommodations
We had no idea how long the process was going to take, my doctor thought that Emmy would be arriving sometime in the afternoon.  Nathan was in charge of keeping our family updated so they would  know when to come to the hospital....weeeeeell I received my epidural at 6:00 am and started pushing minutes later.

Emerson Paige Eltzholtz made her debut at 6:59 am on Wednesday, October 2! She weighed in at a tiny 5 pounds, 12 oz.  (which I was extremely surprised by, seeing as she measured 6 pounds, 5 ounces on the sonogram) and was 19 inches long.  Our little string bean!

I was overwhelmed with emotions and all of my feeling were amplified when they placed her on my chest.  Holy moly! God is good :) Nathan got to cut the umbilical cord and then they took her to the other side of the room to do all of the tests and check her vitals.  I couldn't wait to have her back! Once they gave her a bath, (which she hated) they gave her back to me and we were wheeled down the hall to our new room.

We had visitors off and on all day.  Pictures galore!

The hospital has a policy that I loved.  No guests from 2-4.  As harsh as that sounds, it was nice to just spend some time with my new little family.

We spent one more night at the hospital and then I was going stir crazy! I was so happy when we both got the go ahead to be released!

So yittle!
Headed home!
Since then we've been getting used to our lives as new parents.  It's been a whirlwind of a week! We went to her check-up on Monday and she gained a whole 3 ounces!  (That girl knows how to eat, I'm hoping she'll break 6 pounds at our next appointment on Friday)
