Thankful

Our baby girl was 2 months old on Monday...I cannot believe how quickly the first 2 months have gone by.  I went back to work Monday as well which put a little damper on her 2 month birthday, but as tough as it was, the snuggles at the end of the day made it all okay.

Here's a look back on the past 2 weeks with our little family.

We did things a little topsy turvy, and Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year, so I convinced Nathan to let us get our tree before Thanksgiving.  I know to some that seems like madness but we experienced a brief cold snap and I could NOT resist.  We even made gingerbread cookies, had a fire in the fireplace, and watched Christmas Vacation--it was perfection!

Emerson loves to play on her play mat and stare at the lights on the tree :)

We celebrated Thanksgiving with Nathan's family last Tuesday since he had to work Thanksgiving day.  We had a fun day of eating our weight in sweet potatoes, dressing, turkey, ham, pumpkin pie--you name it, we ate it! I felt like I weighed 300 pounds when we left!

On Thanksgiving day my sisters and I spent the day in my kitchen getting our sides ready for the next day.  This was our first Thanksgiving not to go to Lufkin because Emmy's still a little too young to travel.  That means the Thanksgiving meal was on us--for the first time ever.  It wasn't exactly up to Mawmaw's standards but it was pretty yummy.

On Friday morning we went to Emmy's pediatrician for her check up.  She was supposed to be getting her 2 month shots but her heart rate was high so her doctor wanted to hold off on the shots, and instead we headed to get an EKG. The cardiologist said the results were normal but because of my family history with Tachycardia they want us to take us to her in to the specialist to make sure there aren't any irregularities.

Aside from that scare she got a clean bill of health and is weighed in at 9.1 pounds! She's getting a little belly and it's adorable :)

After her appointment we went to my parent's house to have Thanksgiving with them.  We ate and then  I fell asleep on the couch.  Naps are hard to come by these days so when someone wants to hold Emerson I take the opportunity to catch a little shut eye.  I slept too long and had to hurriedly get ready for our Christmas pictures! (And let me tell you, having a baby makes it a little tougher to just get ready to go somewhere on a whim.)  As soon as I fed her we changed her into her picture outfit and as I was putting her bib on she spit up all over her dress--go figure! Quick change and we were off to the races.

We had a good time taking Christmas pictures, I can't wait to see how they turned out!

Today, Emerson is 2 months old and we're more in love with her than ever! She captures my heart a little more everyday...if that's possible.

She has recently starting cooing and it is the sweetest thing.  I love listening to her "talk."

She is sleeping less during the day and going 6-7 hours straight at night. Thank God!

The doctor was impressed with how well she can hold herself up and her neck control!

She makes more eye contact and melts my heart when she grins at me.

She enjoys laying on her mat and playing with her toys.

Her eyes and hair have gotten a little lighter.

She has finally grown out of newborn clothes, yay!

Her feet are so long! She's also outgrown some of her socks. Those are soccer playing feet!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the last 3 weeks...

6 weeks old

Aside from raising baby not a whole lot has been going on around our house lately!

Today I had intended to get some housework done but Emerson just wasn't having it.  I guess it was one of those days she just needed to be held.  My maternity leave is quickly coming to an end and I took the opportunity to cuddle with my little girl today.  She is the sweetest little person, I could stare at her all day!

The first few weeks she was home she cried a lot of the time and we were at our wits end because we didn't know how to help her.  At her check up we found out she wasn't gaining enough weight.  Once we figured that out and got her feeding schedule adjusted she has been such an easy going baby.

She rolled over for the first time last week! (5 weeks old)  It was only from her stomach to her back but I was still impressed! She has a really strong neck and leg muscles.

I took her for another weigh in last Tuesday and she gained a whole pound in a week.  The doctor was thrilled. Her color looks better and her cheeks are getting a little chubby. Yay! :)

She's starting to sleep longer during the night.  Right now we're getting one six hour stretch! I can't tell you how refreshed I felt the first time she slept six hours.  I love(d) to sleep and that has by far been my biggest adjustment since she was born.

I got the okay from my doctor to start working out again...finally! After not doing anything besides walking for 10 months my first run was rough.  But it felt good to get back out there! Now I just have to stick with it, which should be interesting when I go back to work.  I am really wondering how working moms do it all.  I'm freaking out about it already!

But before I go back to school we get to celebrate her first Thanksgiving, we're so excited!

Here's a few pictures from the past 2 weeks :)

One month old already...

Happy 1 month Emmy!

Our baby girl is 1 month old today and I can't believe it! 1 month ago our lives changed for the better.  We couldn't be more thrilled with this little one, she has given us so much joy (even in the difficult, darkest hours of the night when she decides she would rather be wide awake and crying than snug in her bassinet sleeping.)

Here are some things that we 've discovered about our pretty Emmy during the past month!

- She would rather open one eye at a time than both, little pirate.

- She loves to be swaddled, and only her daddy can do it the right way.

- She eats like nobody's business, but it's paying off because as of a few nights ago she weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces!
- Her favorite trick is to wait to poop or pee until we take her diaper off.  Surprises are not in short     supply around here.
- She has a love/hate relationship with her pacifier.  She'll be perfectly content sucking away and then she'll bat it out of her own mouth and when you try to give it back to her she'll give you heck!

- Her eyes are still a dark grey color.
- She bleats like a baby goat when she is waking up! I'm trying to record it.  It's the cutest thing ever.
- She loves to be held and rocked.  Thank goodness we just got a rocking chair today, Nathan is very thankful.  He can sit down to rock her now when she wakes up at night! I feed her, he rocks her.  Teamwork!
- She is finally beginning to fill out her newborn clothes.  Hopefully, we'll be moving up to 0-3 months soon.
- She likes baths until it's time to get out.  She's not a fan of being cold, and I don't blame her! I think Nathan loves bath time just as much as Emerson does :)

- She took her first bottle last week.

- Right now she wakes up every 3-4 hours to be fed.  We made it 5 hours two nights ago, it was heavenly!

- She loves to be outside, she is always very content on our daily walks.  We all love the fresh air.

- She studies everything around her with such intent, I wish I knew what was she was thinking. She soaks it all in :)

- She's a little wiggle worm! She moves her arms and legs all the time, and she HAS to have her hands up by her face.

Here's a few (okay a lot) of my favorite pictures from this month:
